Life Writing in Games

Information for Research Participants

What is this project about?

You are invited to participate in a research project about people's experiences with video games. This study consists of a survey and is open only to participants who are 18 years of age or older.

The purpose of the project is to understand how people experience and interact with video games. To this end, this study collects accounts of memorable experiences people have had while playing video games or in activities connected to playing them.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the Swedish Ethical Review Authority (Dnr 2024-03893-01).

The project is conducted by:

Chi-Chieh Jack Huang

Doctoral student, Örebro University

What does participation involve?

If you choose to participate, you will be invited to complete a short survey.

The survey includes three parts:

  1. Background questions about your gaming experience
  2. A short, written description of a memorable experience you have had while playing video games or in activities connected to playing them, along with several questions about that experience
  3. Contact information (email), which will only be used if you indicate that you are willing to be contacted about possible future participation in this research project.

At a later stage of the project, participants who indicate that they are willing to be contacted may be invited to take part in additional research activities (for example interviews) to further discuss their experiences with video games. Participation in such activities would be optional.

Your responses will be stored securely and handled in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
